encountered this absolutely magnificent juniper tree in the Oregon Badlands Wilderness and I’m convinced an incredibly powerful spirit resides within it
The ideal tender perennials for an autumn display are the plant group known as the ‘Decorative Dahlias’ which have fully double flowerheads with flat or slightly incurved florets. A cultivar from this group includes the compact, herbaceous perennial Dahlia ‘Crème de Cassis’ with pale lilac petals with purple backs. The root tubers of these plants will need to be lifted and stored over the winter in a dark, cool, frost-free building.
In full flower Paeonia (Gansu Group) ‘Highdown’ (Chinese tree peony) and Wisteria floribunda ‘Domino’ (Japanese wisteria) were providing a spectacular display in the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, Surrey, UK.
